                                      Biomass, according to the review of PNAER-2020 (National Action Plan for
          UB – Bioenergy Unit         Renewable Energies), should contribute by 2020 with 93% of all Renewable
          UEE – Energy Efficiency Unit   Energy  Sources  for  the  heating/cooling  sector  and  87%  for  the  transport
          UIG - Geoscientific         sector (biofuels). Although with a less significant contribution, biomass will
                                      also  have  to  contribute  to  the  renewable  electricity  within  the  national
          Information  Unit
                                      target of 49.6% through cogeneration plants (CHP) or dedicated plants using
          National Laboratory of Energy   biomass.  Biomass  will  provide  a  leading  role  in  view  of  technological
          and Geology                 solutions, for the decarbonisation of the transport sector.

                                      The CONVERT project aims at identifying, in an objective and quantitative

                                      way, the different types of endogenous biomass that can be applied in the
                                      short-medium  term to  economically  viable  technological  solutions  for  the
      production  of  power  and  heat,  energy  vectors,  and  especially  advanced
                                      biofuels. These should comply with all the sustainability criteria set by the
                                      European  Directives,  in  particular the  new  Red  II  (2015/1513).  Under  the
          Project Co-Funded by:       scope  of  CONVERT,  one  Grid  of  Energy  Classification  will  be  created  to
                                      correlate  the  different  biomass  types  with  eight  conversion  technologies,

                                      within a common assessment of energy production, leading to the award of
                                      an Energy Potential Label and a Sustainability Label which can be potentially
                                      helpful for certification and/or for future legislative production.
