The EU Horizon Europe CO2NSTRUCT project, where LNEG is a partner, will have its kick-off meeting on 22-23 June. All those interested in the circular economy, value chains, mitigation of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and construction are invited to participate in the public session between 13h00-14:30 CET, which will take place on June 22.

Carbon-intensive construction materials play a key role in the transition from linear construction to a more sustainable, low carbon and circular one. However, current climate mitigation mathematical models do not consider circularity. The CO2NSTRUCT project will identify, test and quantify circular economy impacts for six key carbon-intensive materials: cement, steel, brick, glass, wood and insulation materials. Knowledge will be produced on the impacts of raw material extraction, logistics, transformation and consumer industries, covering the entire life cycle of these materials. This information will be integrated into the JRC-EU-TIMES European energy system model, used to design more circular carbon neutral pathways.

In this online launch event, project coordinator Ana Teresa Lima, DTU Sustain and project partners provide a brief summary of the project’s objectives and ambitions, around the question: To what extent does the circular economy in construction contribute to mitigation of GHGs in Europe?
