alarmPublication date: 25 May, 2019

LNEG has been developing R,D&D projects in the field of Biomass since 1979, at the time through the Renewable Energy Departments and the former LNETI’s Biotechnology Department, which later on would become INETI.

In 2009, upon the creation of LNEG, all Biomass and Biotechnology areas of activity were merged into the Bioenergy Unit.  Over the years, LNEG has participated in several national and European projects in the area of Biomass and its conversion technologies into Bioproducts, Biofuels and Electricity. Today, the Bioenergy and Biorefineries Unit has a research and technical team focused on supporting the national business fabric, the permanent creation of new scientific and technological knowledge in different areas of Bioenergy and Circular Bioeconomy, providing technological support to the development of national and European projects, acting as a facilitator in the dissemination of Biomass as a renewable and endogenous resource.
