The area of Energy in the Built Environment has the objective of developing research, development and innovation studies, supporting the implementation of Public Policies and the sustainable development of the various sectors (Residential and Services, Industry), in the theme of energy efficiency and integration of renewable energy systems in buildings, from the perspective of Net Zero Energy Buildings. In this context, LNEG is developing activities in the area of energy efficiency, operating in the Buildings and Industry sectors, with a particular focus on of regulation, development and innovation.
As one of the major challenges of the 21st Century focus on the management of urban areas and sustainable urbanization, the Intelligent and Sustainable Cities have been a line of action for LNEG since 2010, with the main focus on the development of R & D on Positive Energy Districts and Communities (PED / C), which constitute a new line of action within the framework of the European Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET) and whose objective is the development of an integrated approach including technological, spatial perspectives, regulatory, financial, legal, environmental, social and economic at the district / community level.
