Aggregation of renewable distributed generation. Hybrid and virtual renewable power plants.

As a result of the current energy transition, new players are emerging – among them, the aggregating agents – who contribute to the provision of new electricity services and auxiliary systems. These new agents of the system, assisted by information and communication technologies (ICT) may, in the near future, provide renewable and spatially distributed technologies with “some” control of energy production and / or storage. This capacity gives operating flexibility to renewable power plants and reduces the risk associated with their participation in electricity markets.

This line of research includes activities in the field of aggregation of distributed production (and microgeneration) from renewable sources, including technical and economic optimization of the generation (and consumption) portfolio in virtual/hybrid  renewable power plants (VPP), regulation and operation of aggregators and their use as facilitators of integration of renewable generation, in technical terms and in the electricity markets.
