State mission aimed at developing knowledge of the geological and hydrogeological infrastructure of the emerging territory, coastal strips, margins and seafloor, which is the first basis for characterization of the territory for analysis of environmental sustainability and planning in relation to all possible forms of use and benefit of the territory. The aggregation of this knowledge in systematic developed mapping instruments supports all subsequent economic activities such as the exploration and enhancement of natural resources including geocultural heritage, hazard assessment and mitigation of geological hazards and evaluation of the impacts of the installation of any industrial activity in the descriptors of the geology and geomorphology of the territory.
