The detailed mapping of the coastal zones is based on the national need to increase the knowledge of the geological processes that affect the coast, a territory that is influenced by intense dynamics and to which various phenomena of instability are associated. LNEG conducts studies on the characterization and evolution of coastal zones, with a higher incidence in sandy coasts, and a national coastal zone cartography project is being carried out on a scale of 1/3000 (over a range of 2 km), which will be monitored by the provision of an indicator of danger associated with changes in the coastline. The Sedimentology and Coastal Geology laboratories, along with the field equipment, enable the LNEG to develop activities in this particular area of geology.
