The course was organized by the Geological Service of Argentina – SegemAR in collaboration with the Association of Iberoamerican Geology and Mineral Services – ASGMI and ran from November 10 to 21, 2019.

The meeting was attended by participants from 11 countries (Portugal, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Honduras and Guatemala) and its main objectives were:

  • Sharing expertise of the Ibero-American geological services regarding the metallogenetic study of mineral deposits and regional metallogenetic cartography and details of the respective countries;
  • Advanced training by Argentine geological services experts and invited experts in the fields of mineral deposit paragenesis, isotopic analysis, main deposit models, metallogenetic assessments and resource assessment;
  • Field knowledge of the main types of deposits in the Argentine territory such as the cupriferous (Taca Taca), lithium sedimentary (Solar Jujuy) and epitermal (Chinchillas) systems

In addition to the theoretical-practical component, a field visit was made to the Argentine Andean zone where several mining projects were visited, Chinchillas Mine (Pb-Zn-Ag), Solar Jujuy Mine (Li-K) and Taca Taca Project (Cu- Mo-Au).
