The queens of the African seas.
These Ammonites with exceptional dimensions and preservation, lived about 100 million years ago (Albian) in old Cretaceous seas that covered West Africa.
These specimens were sent in 1900 to be studied by Paul Choffat, geologist of the Geological Survey of Portugal and the results were published in the Memoirs of the GPS (1903), where 2 new species for science have been described. The logotype of our Museum is based on another specimen of these Ammonites, exhibited in the reception room.
