A gentle volcano who preserved leafs in its ashes.

These are leaf impressions in volcanic ashes expelled by eruptions of S. Miguel Island (Azores); before the Portuguese navigator’s arrival. These fossils, that prove that these plants were not introduced by men, were studied by F. Diniz (Comun. Serv. Geol. Portugal, n° 46, 1962).
