Studies of the stratigraphy of the collected samples were carried out at the University of Rouen by Pierre-Alain Dupeuble (Mesozoic and Cenozoic coverage), at the University of Rennes by Raymond Capdevila (early Mesozoic basement), at the University of Paris by Daniel Fantinet (Upper Paleozoic of the Portuguese southern zone) and in the Serviços Geológicos de Portugal by Luísa Ribeiro (upper Paleozoic of the Portuguese southern zone). The geological background used on the continent is that of the Geological Map of Portugal, scale 1:1 000 000 – 1968 edition, published by the Serviços Geológicos de Portugal and revised in 1977 by F. Moitinho de Almeida.
