1. Considerações Sobre Depósitos de Zinco do Sul de Portugal.
João Martins da Silva (6 páginas)
Resumo: In South Portugal the zinc ores occur in two districts. At Santa Suzana, near Alcácer do Sal, a vein contains fine grained sphalerite, chalcopyrite, chalcocite and galena. The principal gangue minerals are quartz and barite. The ore carries a little gold and silver. At Sobral d’Adiça there are the best zinc deposits of South Poertugal. The superficial rocks are slates, quartzites and limestones. Synclinal and anticlinal folds are present with NE-SW trend. The supergene minerals are smithsonite, calamine and a little descloizite, mixed with jasperoid silica, limonite and clay. The primary ore minerals occur chiefly as disseminated replacements in the limestones. They are sphalerite, galena and pyrite. The deposits are not associated with observable igneous intrusives but his rocks accross the old stracta at a distance of several miles. However, is vertical contact may be near the surface. Quartz veins cut across the rocks and the pyrite follow the silicification of the limestones. The deposits are formed by replacement, presumably due to solutions from the underlying magmatic reservoir that supplied the regional eruptiv rocks.
2. Contribuição para o Estudo da Indústria Siderúrgica em Portugal.
V. Pinto Pinheiro (244 páginas)
Resumo: The necessity of establishing in Portugal a steel industry, able to meet the pig-iron and steel requirements of this country, suggested the opportunity of this work whose aim is to give a solution to the problem, the author thinks to be the most defensable. In the first part of this work the author gives information and specifications about the processes most generally used, concerning apparatus, production capacity, raw-materials, energy comsuption, etc. It was thought that this previous explanation was necessary to make the work understandable to interested people, though not experts on the matter and so not at ease with the technical terminology. It was also taken under consideration that there is very short published literature on this subject in portuguese language.
In the second part, an inventory is given of the national sources of the most important raw-materials to the steel industry, pointing out the geographical situation, composition and other specifications of interest of the available stocks of iron and manganese ores, pirite ashes, coal, scrap, fluxes and refractory material.
